07.04.08- City Utilities New Power Outage Number:
On August 5th Springfield residents will be able to vote on the continuation of the 1/8-cent sales tax for transportation. You will be receiving more about this sales tax in your July City Utilities bill. Click here to view a map of the purposed projects if the tax is allowed to continue. The Sales tax has to be renewed by voters every four years. The tax began in 1996 and was renewed by voters in 2000, and 2004. |
07.02.08- The City of Springfield filed suite against the Springfield Skatepark Association:
The City of Springfield filed a lawsuit against the Springfield Skatepark Association asking a judge to determine who owns the facility and has the right to run the park. In addition, the suit asks the judge to give "immediate possession" of the skate park. Click here to view the lawsuit. |
07.02.08- City Utilities New Power Outage Number:
City Utilities has installed its new phone line system which can handle up to 30,000 calls at once. To report a power outage call 1-888-863-9001. |
06.19.08- City Utilities Report:
City Utilities has released the results from the "2008 Utility Bill comparison for select cities" conducted by Memphis Light, Gas and Water. The study combined utility bills for 1,000 Kilowatt hours of electricity, 200 therms of natural gas, five cubic feet of water, and five cubic feet of wastewater for its average, total customer bill for utility services. The prices are based on rates in effect at the utilities on January 1, 2008. Click here to view the report. |
06.12.08- City of Springfield Budget:
The final adopted version of the 2008-2009 City of Springfield budget is now available. Click here to view the budget information. The $255 million budget is divided into 6 major sections: general operating funds, grants/special revenue, capital projects, debt services, enterprise funds, and internal service funds. |
05.30.08- Springfield Skate Park Update:
Mediation between the Springfield Skatepark Association and the Springfield- Greene County Parks board could not be resolved. Therefore, the parks board will take possession of the Springfield skate park on June 30th. Click here to learn more about the transaction. |
05.27.08- Park City Square ruling:

05.13.08- Click it or Ticket:
The Springfield Police department will be participating in this year’s "Click it or Ticket." The campaign will kick off on May 19th and last thru June 1st. During this time extra cops will be on duty and anyone found not wearing a seat belt could receive a ticket. |

04.16.08- Budget Discussion and increased revenue:

04.01.08- CU Rate increase proposal:
At the Springfield City Council luncheon CU's General Manager, John Twitty, presented the rate increase for natural gas. Click here to view the proposal. He said the rate increase would cost $3.91 a month for an average residential customer and $14.58 for an average business. |

03.28.08- Budget meeting for public input- 
Monday, March 31st the Springfield City Council held a meeting on the budget for public input.

03.28.08- City Utilities rate increse:
City Utilities passed a 4.1% increase on the base rate of natural gas. The resolution will now move to the Springfield City Council and if it is passed rates will take effect in October. What to tell your councilmember what you think of the rate hike Click here. |
03.25.08- Budget Meeting/other city items:
The Springfield City Council held its third budget meeting on March 25th and discussed other items including council members conflict of interest and city parks. While discussing city council and possible conflict of interest city attorney Dan Wichmer sited the cities code of ethics and the city charter. On the budget City Manager Bob Cumley said he will provide to the council before next Monday the citizens input and a department head workshop will be held next Tuesday. 03.25.08- Traffic improvements:
National Avenue between Chestnut Expressway and Brower will be closed for intersection improvements starting on Monday, March 31st at 9am thru 5pm on Friday, April 18th (weather permitting). If your plans take you thru this intersection make arrangements for an alternative route or feel free to follow the detour. |
03.19.08- Budget Workshop/Public Input:
The Springfield City Council held its second budget workshop on March 18th and decided public opinions need to be taken into account. You will have the chance to share your views with the council in a special public-input meeting on Monday, March 31st from 6:30-8pm located in the council chambers or click here to send them an e-mail. The final deadline for public input is April 8th. |

03.17.08- Springfield City Budget:
Springfield City Council member Doug Burlison has addressed the mayor and council as to how the budget of Springfield should be redistributed to help fund necessary departments. 03.14.08- Red Light Cameras:
A new red light camera have been placed in Springfield. Drive with caution when traveling westbound on Sunshine Street at Campbell. Warning period for the camera started March 15th and will continue for 30 days before tickets are handed out.
This is the 5th red light camera to be placed in a Springfield intersection. The other cameras are located Southbound National at Battlefield, Southbound Campbell at Battlefield, Eastbound Battlefield at Campbell, and Westbound Sunshine at National.

02.27.08- City Budget:
The City of Springfield gave a presentation that details where city revenue comes from, how it can be spent, takes a look at the pension plan for the first responders, and more. Click here to view the presentation.
In addition, all city departments that receive money from the general funds were asked to cut 7% out of their budgets. Click here to view the budget exercise that was submitted to the city managers office. This document has not been finalized and is pending city councils debate and approval. |
02.26.08- Speed limits in Springfield to be lowered:
The city of Springfield will officially lower the speed limits in neighborhoods.
Not all residential streets will be affected. Click here to view a map of the city and see if your neighborhood's speed limit will decline. The estimated additional cost to the city of Springfield will be $15,000. |
