Missouri State Representative J. Eggleston (Republican, District 002) has filed legislation in the Missouri house that would repeal the requirement that motor vehicles must have a vehicle inspection before they are licensed.
HB 451 had it’s first and second reading earlier this month in the house. Tonight there will be a hearing on the legislation at 6pm in House Hearing Room 6 at the Missouri capitol.
This isn’t the first time legislation like this has been before in Missouri. Rep. Eggleston proposed similar legislation last year, HB 1444.
The Automotive Service Association (ASA) opposed last year’s bill and takes credit for making sure the legislation did not become law. In a recent press release by the ASA, they say they have started efforts to once again stop this bill. “With the number of recalls and rapidly increasing vehicle technologies, the trend should be for more state inspection programs, not less. Missouri’s program is one of the best in the nation, and ASA has profiled it in hearings in Washington, D.C., and in other states. Any effort to repeal the program is nonsensical.”
