A Greene County jury sent down a guilty verdict for a woman charged with killing a man she met on an online dating site.
The jury found Christina Duckett, 34, from Springfield guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action for the shooting death of 40-year-old Joshua Brooks of Republic. The jury deliberated for five hours before reaching the verdict.
In September of 2018, Duckett went on a date with Brooks. The two went to a local movie theater, shared some popcorn, and then left the theater around 11:45 p.m.
His body was found in his pickup truck the next morning at the end of a dead-end street. He’d been shot in the head three times. Data obtained by the police say Brooks had been in that location since 12:05 a.m. Text messages and contact with Brooks had also appeared to have stopped around that time as well.
No motive has been reported.
Duckett could face up to life behind bars. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for early 2020.
