(KTTS News) — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has transferred inmates from the old jail in downtown Springfield to the new one near Division and Haseltine Road.
Buses moved the inmates Friday night, escorted by patrol cars and a helicopter providing cover overhead.
KY3 says deputies had to remove prisoners from the trailers behind the jail before they could take them out of the permanent lockup.
The new $150 million dollar Greene County Sheriff’s Office is near the Springfield-Branson National Airport.
The new jail holds more than 1,200 inmates.
The old one was designed to hold around 600.
