(KTTS News) — Evangel University plans to renovate residence halls on its campus, beginning with Walther Hall – one of the oldest dorms.

Walther was built in 1969 and renovated in 2008.

It houses men and women in separate wings.

The renovation project will include new heating and air, shower stalls, kitchens, community spaces, furniture and finishes.

Construction begins this December and should wrap up by next fall.

Press Release

Evangel University announced today that it will begin residence hall renovations with Walther Hall, one of the oldest dorms on campus.

“It’s an exciting time for our community,” Dr. Mike Rakes, Evangel University president, said. “The Walther Hall remodel is just the first. When it is complete, we will, in faith, move to the next one on the list as we work to elevate the student experience on campus.”

Originally built in 1969 and lightly renovated in 2008, Walther Hall has historically housed female students. This academic year the dorm houses both female and male students in separate wings.

“The relative condition and size of Walther Hall make this a great first dorm renovation project,” said Dr. Michael Kolstad, EU chief of staff. “We recognize that living spaces are important to the overall college experience, and we look forward to making our residence halls, beginning with Walther, a fantastic place for our students as they experience life at Evangel.”

Remodel plans include a new state-of-the-art HVAC system allowing for individual room temperature control, new plumbing, shower stalls, community areas, both inside and out, including renovated first and second floor lobbies, the addition of floor-by-floor kitchenettes and laundry facilities, including a bank of microwaves, oven, refrigerator, farmhouse style sink, and disposal system, new furniture, and new finishes (paint, flooring, etc.)

Construction will begin this December and is expected to be completed by fall 2023.

The project is one element of the university’s new construction campaign, Here.Now. Other facets of the campaign include a new arena, fieldhouse, and lighted intramural sports field. Additional details about construction start dates for these projects will be announced later this fall.
