(KTTS News) — Southeast Missouri Congressman Jason Smith has been elected the chair of the House Ways and Means Committee.
The Republican won a three-way race to run one of the most powerful committees.
Smith will preside over entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid.
Smith has said in past interviews that he wants to hold hearings on healthcare costs.
He also wants to focus on healthcare in rural America.
