Congressman Eric Burlison has reintroduced the Repeal the NFA Act.
The National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) was the first federal law to impose limitations on firearm ownership. It requires Americans to pay a $200 tax, register, and undergo an intrusive application process to own certain firearms and accessories.
For decades, unelected bureaucrats have weaponized the NFA to impose unconstitutional regulations on gun owners without congressional approval. Recently, the ATF published a rule to reclassify firearms with pistol braces as short-barrel rifles (SBR), transforming millions of law-abiding Americans into felons unless they submit to the NFA’s oppressive tax and registration scheme. Despite rulings from three federal courts blocking the rule, the ATF is still claiming all braced pistols are SBRs and therefore subject to NFA.
Rep. Eric Burlison said, “The federal government has manipulated the National Firearms Act for nearly a century to strip Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. Unelected bureaucrats at the ATF have weaponized the NFA as a tool to criminalize millions of responsible gun owners. The recent pistol brace rule is the latest example of their audacious disregard for the Constitution. The time has come to dismantle this unconstitutional regime and restore our fundamental freedoms. The Repeal the NFA Act will end the ATF’s reign of regulatory tyranny, strike a blow against bureaucratic overreach, and ensure that Americans are no longer subjected to this unjust tax-and-registration scheme.”
