(Reuters) – Texas reported 159 measles cases on Tuesday, the state’s health department said, an increase of 13 cases from its prior count.
Cases in Gaines county, the center of the outbreak, rose to 107 from 98 cases, it said, adding that hospitalizations rose to 22 from 20.
Last week, an unvaccinated child died of measles, the first in the United States since 2015. The child had no known underlying conditions.
U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr had said on Friday that the government is providing resources, including vaccines to tackle the measles outbreak in Texas.
