(Information provided by the Bolivar Police Department)

At about 7 am on August 13th, Bolivar Officers were called to the Walmart Supercenter for a report of a female subject armed with a firearm making threats towards other people.

Officers received information from a store employee that a woman was armed with a firearm and had been making threats towards customers and was currently in the store. The subject was described as a white female with red hair and a political themed t-shirt. Officers were able to quickly locate the subject and detained her without incident while they conducted their investigation. No weapon was located on her person.

It was found that the woman, 43 of South Carolina, was at the store with her boyfriend, a 35 of Springfield, MO, to get some groceries before going to the lake. Once the woman entered the store, the boyfriend approached a store employee and told him that the woman was armed and had threatened to shoot people, in particular himself and his family. The store employee told officers that he did not see the weapon, but relied on the information given to him by the boyfriend. At the time of the call, he did not know that there was a relationship between the two.

Later the boyfriend told Police that the woman had a small handgun in a pink bag located in her car.

The woman denied that she ever made any threatening statements, or was in possession of a firearm. Officers could see a pink bag in her vehicle behind the driver’s seat and the woman allowed Officers to open the bag where they did find a small .380 Caliber handgun and several rounds of ammunition. When the officers located the gun, both the woman and her boyfriend denied ownership of the gun, which was subsequently taken into safekeeping by the Bolivar Police Department until an owner can be located.

Both people were released without charge, however the report will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.
