This is normally the time of year when more than 100 volunteers get together to clean up trash along local streams, rivers and lakes, but because of COVID-19, the James River Basin Partnership is cancelling the River Rescue cleanup.
The cleanup is organized by the James River Basin Partnership and the Ozark Mountain Paddlers.
The project manager says he understands clean waterways are essential, but safety comes first.
Organizers say you can still help by picking up a few pieces of trash when you’re in or around waterways or on trails, in your neighborhood, or even walking past storm drains.
