A Bolivar family is raising money to take their daughter to London for life-saving surgery.

9-year-old Moxie Garrison suffers from Marfan Syndrome.

Marfan syndrome is a genetic condition that affects connective tissue, which provides support for the body and organs.

Marfan syndrome can damage the blood vessels, heart, eyes, skin, lungs, and the bones of the hips, spine, feet, and rib cage.

Moxie must have open heart surgery as soon as possible to protect her aortic aneurysm from rupturing.

Leading cardiac surgeons in the United States suggested that Moxie travel to London for Personalized External Aortic Root Support (PEARS) surgery.

Recently, Citizens Memorial Hospital presented $23,815 to the Garrison family to help with the procedure.

Bolivar R-I Schools on Wednesday also stepped up to help raise funds for Moxie.

The total cost for the procedure is $110,000. So far the Garrison family has raised $95,000 but still needs to raise $15,000 before the April surgery.

Moxie’s mom, Marketa, says “My family is so humble. We could never imagine people who do not even know us will help our Moxie to be able to have this life-saving operation.”
