The Austrians and Germans have elevated comfort food to an art. Schnitzel is somehow both homey and fancy at the same time, and Strudel is basically apple pie dressed up for an evening of waltzing. The music we play tonight will be the same—familiar and comforting while also hauntingly elegant and beautiful. Strauss’s Rosenkavalier Suite is lush and to garnish this entrée of events, Brahms’s Violin Concerto performed by the magnificent Giora Schmidt is a familiar and always appealing classic.
